Henry Tamburin is a noted blackjack player and expert on gambling. He is also an author, lecturer, and player. He has over 700 articles to his credit, and he is renowned for his ability at the blackjack table. Tamburin has been featured on radio and television, and he has written several books on casino gambling.
Henry played for the first time during a trip to Las Vegas in the summer of 1968. At the time, he was a graduate student at the University of Maryland (studying chemistry), and a fellow graduate student and his wife convinced Mr. and Mrs. Tamburin to take a trip to Vegas with them. As money was tight, Henry and his wife were hesitant to go, but the other couple persisted.
When they arrived at their hotel, they were immediately confronted with a long line at the front desk. While his wife waited to check in, Henry decided to kill some time by playing a few hands of blackjack. Henry had read that the game was beatable, but by the time his wife had registered and picked up the room key, Henry had already lost their entire gambling bankroll. After his crushing defeat at the blackjack table, Henry vowed to study the game and master it. The rest is history.
Tamburin has a Doctorate degree in Chemistry. This, coupled with a strong background in mathematics, allows Henry to devise the optimum playing strategy for blackjack and various other casino games. He once operated a successful blackjack school in New Jersey, which allows him to better instruct students in his various gaming seminars, personal appearances, and written material.
Over the years, Henry has written numerous books on gambling strategy. They include:
Blackjack - In this book, Henry gives the reader all the necessary strategies to win at the blackjack table. The book teaches table discipline and emphasizes that a player must know when to walk away. In many ways, the book is a culmination of the author's courses, seminars, and articles. The book also details techniques of card counting and how to take advantage of the true count for betting.
Craps - This is a concise book which discusses the various nuances of playing casino craps. Inside, Henry presents a new strategy called "Increase Odds" which will enable the player to maximize his or her chances of winning. Intended for the low to medium level player, the book includes rules, mechanics, and optimum strategy suggestions.
Henry Tamburin on Casino Gambling - This book compiles 100 of Henry's best articles on gambling. The articles cover such topics as blackjack, slots, craps, and many other casino games. There's even advice on how to make the best play, manage money, reduce your odds, etc.
Blackjack: Take the Money and Run - This is, without a doubt, the book that Henry is most famous for. The book covers every possible blackjack tactic, including: basic strategy plays, a basic strategy system which involves only counting tens and aces, an entry level card counting system, analysis of the different side bets on a blackjack table, how to get away with card counting, managing a bankroll, etc. This book has even been updated in the last few years to reflect changes in the game and its growing popularity.
The Reference Guide to Casino Gaming - This book describes rules and strategies for over 25 popular casino games found in locations such as Nevada, Atlantic City, riverboat casinos, and Indian casinos.
The 10 Best Casino Bets - This book discusses the 10 most favorable bets that every gambler should be aware of. Each bet is described in exhaustive detail, along with player and wagering strategies.
109 Ways to Beat the Casinos - In this book, Henry and five other gaming experts provide advice to reduce the casinos built-in advantage on a number of popular games. The book covers games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, slots, video poker, sports betting, live poker, Caribbean Stud poker, Let It Ride, and Three Card poker.
Henry has also written The Ultimate Blackjack Book, Winning Baccarat Strategies, and contributed to The Experts' Guide to Casino Games. He also edits and publishes the free Blackjack Insider Newsletter. In addition, his 700 plus articles can be found in the following publications: Casino Player Magazine, Midwest Gaming and Travel Magazine, Gaming South Magazine, Jackpot, Casino.Com Magazine, Bingo Bugle, Chance Magazine, Double Down Magazine, The New Chance and Circumstance Magazine, The Gambler Magazine, and Strictly Slots Magazine.
Tamburin also teaches courses in blackjack to those who wish to learn. His 3-hour beginner's course covers the basic rules, strategy, and money management. The intermediate course discusses card counting. He also travels around the country from time to time, teaching 2-day courses on his revolutionary Speed Count blackjack system.
As he was employed as a manager of a large international chemical company for 30 years, Henry never really considered himself a professional blackjack player. However, he has retired in recent years and devoted more time to the game. Having purchased a second home in Las Vegas, Henry has also begun to play more video poker in the last few years.
Showing his diversity at casino games, Henry recently enrolled in a class on Dice Control for Craps players. At the end of the class, the students were invited to participate in a No-Sevens contest. The player who rolled the dice the most before a seven came up would win the contest. The class record was 39 rolls (set by a man who would go on to be a class instructor). Henry shattered the record with 45 straight non-seven rolls.
You can catch Henry Tamburin in action during an upcoming episode of The Ultimate Blackjack Tour, which airs Saturdays at 2 P.M. Eastern on CBS. His official site on the web is Smart Gaming.
